Caring for Swim Caps

Known as one of the most competitive individual sports, swimming involves a lot of discipline. The mastery of its various techniques requires a toned body and constant practice. Unfortunately, though it enables an athlete to get a full body workout, chemicals present in most pools can cause dryness to hair. Aside from the purposes of convenience and speed, the latter is another factor that is responsible for the creation of hair caps. Written below are some tips on how to care for this type of head gear properly so that it can last for more than a single swimming meet.

First, make it a habit to always trim your fingers before putting on your swim cap. Note that sharp fingernails can possibly cause tears in the latex or silicone material that your protective gear is made of. Second, ensure that your locks are free of hair pins or clips of barrettes prior to wearing a swim cap. Doing so will prevent the latter from being punctured by pointed elements that could be present on such accessories. Third, remember to rinse your cap with cool non-chlorinated water after each use. Once that is done, you may then wipe the interior and exterior parts with a towel. Fourth, sprinkle on some baby powder on the inside of your swim cap after it has completely dried. Make sure to spread the aforementioned substance evenly as this will prevent the interior portion from sticking together. Fifth, store your head gear away from direct sunlight. This is because prolonged and intense exposure to the latter can cause the colour of your cap to fade, thereby shortening its life span or wearability as a result.
